Final Fantasy XVI Producer Responds To Fan Criticism And Doubts

Last month, Square Enix allowed numerous outlets around the world to test final fantasy 16 for the first time (including vandal). After the articles and videos of said event were published, some fans expressed their concern about some aspects of this long-awaited adventure, criticism to which Naoki Yoshida, its producer, wanted to respond during a talk he gave this weekend at PAX East 2023.

A game too dark and linear?

As we already told you, the demo that they allowed us to try was action-focused and his goal was to get journalists to get used to his new combat system in real time. The part we played took place at night in a large fortress, one of the first that the development team finished, although having a night setting, many players have commented that everything looks too dark.

As explained by Yoshida, this section belongs to what we could define as a “mission” or a “level”, specific parts of the main story where everything becomes more linear and the story takes center stagewhich is why the scenarios we go through are small in size. Each of these missions will be completely unique.so not all of them will be so dark and there will be room for a wide variety of different settings.

Of course, when we are not immersed in these types of missions, we can freely roam their world, which is divided into large open areas where there will be plenty to do and explore.

The QTE dilemma and the battles between Eikon

Another of the concerns of the fans resides in the Eikon fighting and the apparent high presence of QTE. Here Yoshida wanted to emphasize that each of these fights will be completely different and that, far from it, they will be based solely on QTE.

Not in vain, wanted to make it clear that these QTEs will be used mainly for sequences in which a phase change occurs during the confrontation against the boss so that the player always has to be aware and does not relax, and failing one will not mean our death.

Additionally, he has commented that the duel between Ifrit and Garuda that we were able to play the media will be equivalent to the tutorial of this type of battle and for plot reasons we will not have many techniques or movements, something that will change as the story progresses, which will bring the gameplay with Ifrit closer to that of Clive, its protagonist, in human form.

The role-playing part of the game will be shown in April

Finally, Yoshida assures that, despite what it might seem from his bet on the action, there are a lot of RPG elements in the game, although these won’t show up until Aprilmonth in which they intend to show the public this layer of their gameplay.

final fantasy 16 will launch the June 22 exclusively for PlayStation 5offering us an action adventure in real time that will tell us a story of revenge that will take place over many years in a world of medieval fantasy.
