Alone in the Dark studio closes its doors

It’s no secret that the most recent game of Alone in the Dark It was not the critical and commercial success that many expected. In this way, today something has been announced that many already saw coming, since Embracer Group has closed the studio responsible for this work, Pieces Interactive.

Through an official statement on their site, Pieces Interactive has confirmed that after 17 years on the market, its story has come to an end. This is what they commented about it:

“Pieces Interactive has released more than ten titles for PC, console and mobile devices since 2007, both in-house concepts such as Puzzlegeddon, Fret Nice, Leviathan Warships, Robo Surf and Kill to Collect, as well as work-for-hire titles such as Magicka 2 and various DLC for Magicka. Our client list includes Paradox Interactive, Koei Tecmo, Arrowhead Game Studios, Koch Media, and RaceRoom Entertainment.

In 2017, Embracer Group acquired Pieces Interactive after working on the Titan Quest expansion, Titan Quest: Ragnarök, and the third Titan Quest expansion, Titan Quest: Atlantis.

“Our last release was the reimagining of Alone in the Dark.”

Pieces Interactive is the latest victim of Embracer, who sold its Saber assets in March, following the sale of Borderlands developers Gearbox to Take-Two the same month for $460 million. Due to its restructuring, the company has also laid off thousands of employees after a major $2 billion investment failed.

It is very unfortunate that this is the current state of the industry. While it is true that the new Alone in the Dark was something exceptional, it was not a terrible experience either. It’s a medium job, and his equipment didn’t deserve to be destroyed. However, that is the situation we are experiencing right now.
