Today, after multiple leaks and rumors, Xbox revealed that four of its exclusive titles will be available on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 in the future. Although this is something that many were already waiting to hear, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, would love to see the rest of the companies do the samesomething that, unfortunately for him, he does not believe will happen.

In an interview with Stephen Totilo, famous industry journalist, Spencer spoke about the exclusivity of games today, making it clear that He would love for PlayStation and Nintendo to bring their games to other platforms, especially multiplayer ones.. In this case, he pointed to Helldivers II as a title that would have benefited from being on Xbox consoles. This is what he commented:

“This is not some kind of barter system for me. We do it for the good of the Xbox business.

I will say that when I look at a game like Helldivers 2, and it's a great game, kudos to the team releasing it on PC and PlayStation, I'm not exactly sure who it helps in the industry not being on Xbox.

But I understand it. There is a legacy in console gaming that we benefit from by releasing games and not putting them elsewhere. We do the same.

I will say that releasing more games to more places and making them more accessible to more people is good for the games business.”

Despite his wishes, Spencer is aware that the decision to bring four Xbox games to his competitors' consoles It is not an incentive for Nintendo and PlayStation to do the same in the future. However, he hopes that future multiplayer experiences, which benefit from having a large online community, will not just be available on one or two platforms, but all.

While we don't know if this will happen in the future, Hiroki Totoki, president of PlayStation, has indicated that they intend to bring more experiences to PC, something that, as we already saw with Helldivers II, has positive results. On related topics, these would be the Xbox games that will come to other consoles. Likewise, the number of Xbox Game Pass users is revealed.

Editor's Note:

This is an interesting perspective that makes a lot of sense. Multiplayer games need a large community to exist, and limiting a certain experience to one or two platforms can be a detriment to the reach that a certain experience can achieve. However, this is a perspective that Sony and Nintendo probably don't share.
