Steven Spielberg gives his opinion of Dune: Part Two

It hit theaters a few weeks ago. Dune: Part Two, a film that has broken molds in the science fiction genre, since it has been liked by all the audiences who have had the opportunity to take a look at it, since it connects in a very organic way with the first part. This positive reception was of course going to attract the attention of Hollywood's big names, and one of them is none other than Steven Spielberga renowned director who has been able to give his opinion of the product to its creator himself.

In a recent podcast, Spielberg he gave a lot of praise to Denis Villeneuve, director of the film, mentioning that it is one of the best films of the genre that he has seen in his life, stating that he has built a quite unique world and that it can be differentiated without problems from other fictional universes. Even bringing to light recognized names such as George Lucas, responsible for the creation of Star Wars, which is currently going through a reconstruction process after the failures made by Disney.

Here is what Spielberg said:

It is my honor to sit here and speak with you. Let me start by saying that there are filmmakers who are world builders. It's not a long list and we know who many of them are. Starting with Méliès and Disney and Kubrick, George Lucas. Ray Harryhausen included him on that list. Fellini built his own worlds of his. Tim Burton. Obviously Wes Anderson, Peter Jackson, James Cameron, Christopher Nolan, Ridley Scott, Guillermo del Toro. The list goes on, but it's not that long, and I deeply and fervently believe that you are one of its newest members.

This is a desert-loving story, but for such a desert-loving film, there is a great longing for water in this film. Despite all the sand in this movie, it's actually water. The sacred waters that long for the green meadows and the blue water of life. You film the desert to make it look like an ocean, a sea. Sandworms were like sea serpents. And that scene surfing among the sandworms is one of the best things I've ever seen. Ever! But you made the desert look like a liquid.

Remember that Dune: Part Two is still in theaters, it will later be released in MAX.

Editor's note: I can't comment much on the movie, since I haven't even seen the first part. So, we will have to wait to then take a look at them on streaming platforms, because if Spielberg approves, that already means something.
