The Acolyte: Fans criticize a scene in the new Star Wars series

Published

on

Since the announcement of Star Wars: The Acolyte, fans have been bashing the series. The first trailer caused derision among fans. In the current episode, there is a scene that makes the series even worse for fans.

Beware of light spoilers: This article describes a scene from episode 3 of Star Wars: The Acolyte. If you don’t want any spoilers, you should come back after watching.

What is it about? In Star Wars: The Acolyte, a story is told before Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. At this time, there are officially no more Sith and the Jedi Order lives in peace and prosperity. But someone is murdering Jedi masters and this threatens the known peace.

In the third episode of the series, we get to know an almost extinct order of witches who use the Force, but in a different way than the Jedi and Sith. The twins Osha and Mae were raised by this order because they are apparently very important to the Force. The order of witches itself is nothing new; we know it from the Clone Wars series, for example, or from the Jedi Survivor games in the form of Merrin.

But a ritual from the last episode causes ridicule and anger among Star Wars fans, who already had problems with a Wookie in episode 2.

A witch ritual causes ridicule

What happens in this scene? In a flashback, the twins Osha and Mae are seen as children during a ritual of the witches’ order. During the ritual, strange noises are admittedly made and several The power of one. The power of two. The power of many sung.

The scene is ridiculed in a tweet on x.com. There are many sexist comments that can also be seen in many other posts about the series and many statements that Star Wars is dead.

  • @fau1in: It’s so… so bad
  • @christianvanck: Star Wars died with Jar Jar Binks. (…) Then he was briefly resurrected with The Mandalorian. RIP.
  • @MadamSavvy: You couldn’t even think of a cool song?

Users like @Hereforthetext also dislike the scene, but note that it’s standard with a witch trope. Despite that, he likes how the story develops.

What about Star Wars: The Acolyte? Even before the release, many fans were not enthusiastic about the series. The previous series had already attracted a lot of criticism. If you look at the ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, you can see a big discrepancy between critics and fans.

The critics are surprisingly positive with a rating of 84%. This means that the series is rated better than, for example, the Obi-Wan or Boba Fett series. On the viewer side, however, things look very different. There, The Acolyte currently has a user rating of 14%. That is a catastrophic value, especially for a franchise with such a large fan base.

It is questionable whether the user rating will change. Although only 3 episodes have been released so far, The Acolyte has had a bad reputation from the start. Above all, the accusations that Woke are plaguing the series and the Star Wars universe in general. Warhammer 40,000 also had a similar accusation: fans accuse Warhammer 40,000 of taking them for fools in order to be “woke”
