We can already know when the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti with some grateful 16GB of VRAM. Thanks to the latest leaks from @MEGAsizeGPUwhich shows a document where the embargo dates are reflected, we know that these graphics will go on sale as soon as the July 18.
It will be said day when these graphics are already listed in stores ready for purchase and shipping worldwide. Of course, that will be the release date, it is still unknown when it will be let’s see the first reviews online of these GPUs. This will mark the beginning of dozens of comparisons looking to show how limited can it be the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB. The reason is none other than many recently released Triple A titles require more than 8 GB of VRAM memory to execute them at the highest quality. This will mark noticeable differences in performance in certain games despite the fact that at the power level, both graphics are identical.
That’s right, the 16GB VRAM NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti just offers more memory
Like the GeForce RTX 4060, the RTX 4060 Ti left a very bittersweet taste in terms of its performance. This will not change in the 16 GB version, since at the performance level NVIDIA has not wanted to offer any additional advantage. This graph cries out for a larger memory interface to increase its bandwidth. This is lower than the previous generation of GPUs, so the higher the resolution, the more performance you lose. In this way, it is an RTX 4060 Ti but with double the VRAM memory, so there will only be a performance improvement in those games where the 8 GB of VRAM generated a bottleneck.
Thus, the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB makes do with the use of the NVIDIA AD106-351 graphics chip with 4,352 CUDA Cores. They arrive at the same frequency of 2.5GHz. At the memory level, the same chips are used with a speed of 18Gbps next to one 128 bit interface. This results in the same bandwidth of 288GB/s. As a reference, the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, despite using 14 Gbps memory, offers a 256-bit interface, boosting its bandwidth up to 448GB/s. We passed like this only from 8 to 16GB of VRAMand your TDP will remain in the 160W.
Now comes the other problem, its price. Although the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti debuted at a price of 439 euros, the version with 16 GB of RAM will cost no less than 549 euro. In essence, it falls within the price range from a GeForce RTX 3070. The RTX 3070 is slightly faster, very slightly (up to 9% at 4K; 4% at 2K; 1% at 1080p), consumes more, and doesn’t have DLSS 3.
NVIDIA’s real problem is called AMD Radeon RX 6800 and RX 6800 XT
The Radeon RX 6800 is 9% faster to Full HD compared to the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, while the RX 6800 XT is 26%. At 2K, these performance improvements are of the 14 and 31% respectively. At 4K, we are already talking about a 18 and 36%. Both graphics cards also offer 16 GB of VRAM to round it all off.
Now comes the funny thing about the whole thing, we have found a Radeon RX 6800 XT Red *text muted*, that is, the top of the PowerColor range, for €559.95 in coolmod. That is to say, 2% more expensive than the PVP of the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB, in exchange for up to 36% more performance. In this way, we could say that the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB is stillborn at that price. What’s more, the same store has these 6800 XT reconditioned for 499.95 euros. If your budget is bad, it is another option.
