Horizon Forbidden West may be getting an expansion and Sylens gave it away

Among other things, Horizon Forbidden West lets you compete against the mammoth Quakefangs.

Among other things, Horizon Forbidden West lets you compete against the mammoth Quakefangs.

With Horizon Forbidden West, Aloy’s second big open world adventure for the PS5 and PS4 was released last February. In it, the red-haired protagonist ends up in the eponymous Forbidden West to find the cause of a mysterious plague. And even if this adventure came to an end, of course, there is now a first indication that we can count on an expansion to Forbidden West in the future.

What is this hint? Actor Lance Reddick, who portrays the game’s inscrutable Sylens, tweeted that he was “working hard on a session for Horizon Forbidden West.” He also posted a video that shows his face with small dots that are usually used in motion capture.

The tweet has since been deleted, but there are screenshots of it online:

What could speak for an expansion of Forbidden West

Even if the tweet does not explicitly mention an expansion for the open world game, this conclusion is still reasonable since completely new cutscenes are apparently being recorded for the game.

A large expansion for a Horizon game would also not be unusual. The first part Zero Dawn also got an extensive DLC with The Frozen Wilds, which not only introduced a new area, but was also able to easily keep the class of the main game. Since developer Guerrilla has had good experiences with this system, a similar approach would also be conceivable for Forbidden West.

And finally, there are already some indications in the main game that Forbidden West will be expanded with DLC content in the future. For example, there are indications of hidden areas such as the “Burning Shores”, which have not yet been accessible.

Horizon Forbidden West has hidden areas that look suspiciously like DLC

So while there are some hints of a DLC, it hasn’t been confirmed yet. And of course Lance Reddick’s tweet could also have some other meaning, it could be about some kind of adaptation of Forbidden West.

It will probably take a while before a possible extension is made. If you haven’t played Forbidden yet, we strongly recommend that you do so, because the title shows what the PS5 is capable of from a technical point of view. You can find all important information about the game in Linda’s review of Horizon Forbidden West.

Do you think there will be an expansion for Forbidden West?
