How old is Link in Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom?

Link's age varies by point of view.

Link’s age varies by point of view.

As we’ve already established, Link isn’t particularly tall in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild. With a height of “only” 1.50 m, he doesn’t even reach Ganondorf up to his shoulders.

But maybe Link could still experience a little growth spurt if he’s not too old. So we looked up how old Link is in his latest adventures.

At the beginning of Breath of the Wild, Link awakens in a chamber in the Shrine of Life. He learns that he spent a full 100 years in deep sleep there. So theoretically we would have to add 100 years to his pre-sleep age.

How old is Link? In Breath of the Wild, Link is about before the events 17 to 20 years old (via Character Profile Wiki). After his awakening he would theoretically be 117 to 120 years old. Yet physically and mentally, he’s still the young adult he was before deep sleep.

Since Tears of the Kingdom is set a few years after Breath of the Wild, Link is a bit older there. However, we don’t yet know exactly how many years have passed between BotW and TotK. Theoretically, we should add this number to Link’s age.

Accordingly, Link is at an age where he will probably no longer grow. But at his young age, he’s agile enough to take on Ganondorf and his minions.

You can see the young, agile Link in action in the new trailer:

Why was Link placed in the chamber? When Ganondorf’s armies attacked Hyrule, Link was wounded so badly that he was close to death. Princess Zelda therefore brought him to the chamber in the Shrine of Life so that Link could recover.

However, she knew at the time that Link would lose his memory upon awakening. Therefore, after his awakening, she communicates with him telepathically to remind him of his fate.

And her plan works: Link wakes up in the best of health and, thanks to Princess Zelda, remembers what a task he has to accomplish.
