Ian Fleming’s novels about agent 007 have been republished so as not to offend
If you are black, Asian, female or somewhat obese, you may have had some internal conflict reading the James Bond books written by Ian Fleming, since in the 50s and 60s he used certain expressions to describe ethnic groups, religions or body sizes. which today are considered offensive. This means, in these times, that you have to eliminate those words and concepts. Because nobody in 2023 seems to realize that this was written 70 years ago, and that other things were “okay” to say and write then, but that the world has evolved since then and that we humans today are offended by everything. From all over the world, and all the time.
Ian Fleming’s 007 books have just been released again, and this time they’ve been partially rewritten so as not to offend anyone. Fleming Publications writes this on his own site:
“In this edition, a series of updates have been made, although keeping as close as possible to the original text and the time in which it is set.”
We also learned last week that even Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s books are being rewritten to better accommodate what is considered “correct” or not.
What do you think about these reissues of old books?
