In Germany we can already see the first motherboards with the chipset listed Intel Z790that is, the most modern motherboards designed for processors Intel Raptor Lake (Core 13), although we must remember that they are compatible with the Core 12just like motherboards Intel 600 Series are also compatible with newer CPUs.
The starting price is found with a ASUS Prime Z790M-Plus D4 by €309.90. From there we can go to the €1,399.90 that reaches the ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Extreme. Specifically, 11 motherboards are listed, of which 9 are from ASUS, one from MSI and the last of Esports ExtrasBYTE.
The most basic Intel Z790 motherboard is €60 cheaper than the cheapest AMD X670
As we anticipated, the price war is not only linked to the cost of AMD and Intel CPUs, and as we can see, there would also be an additional extra cost on motherboards. The prices have been chosen from the German store Caseking, where we can see that the cheapest Intel motherboard is the one previously mentioned by €309.90while the cheapest AMD motherboard is a ASUS Prime X670-P by €369.90. If we are fair, and stop looking for the cheapest, and look for its counterpart, this is the ASUS Prime Z790-P by €349.90which reduces the price difference between homologous models in 20 euros.
The funny thing is that despite costing 20 euros less, the Intel motherboard has PCIe 5.0 x16 interface while AMD’s is PCIe 4.0. It also supports DDR4 memory up to 7,000MHz (vs 6,400 MHz), and we also see a more powerful VRM and includes connectivity Wi-Fi 6 + Bluetooth. The only advantage of the option with the AMD X670 chipset, is the interface NVMe M.2 PCIe 5.0 for an SSD.
Up to 1,339.90 euros for the most advanced motherboard
On the contrary, this is the price to pay for having the best of the best, a ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Extreme. Although it is extremely expensive, compared to the current model with the Intel Z690 chipset, the cost increase is small, 40 euros. At AMD, the most expensive motherboard is also very similar in price, the ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme: 1,299.90 euros, the same price as the previous model Z690.
For now, the record is held by the ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 Extreme Glacial, with a water block and a price of €2,299.90. It is evident that these motherboards are niche, and rather used only by expert overclockers to hit performance records. At the moment of truth, very few units will be sold worldwide.
Remember that these motherboards will be available for purchase next October 20 together with the first processors of the series IntelCore 13these are the Core i9-13900KCore i7-13700K and Core i5-13600Kin addition to its variants “KF“, which keep the multiplier unlocked to favor overclocking, but eliminate integrated graphics in exchange for reducing its sale price.
