K-pop in the gaming world: Here you can play with BTS

It's not just in the music world that K-Pop is making waves.

It’s not just in the music world that K-Pop is making waves.

Collaborations have become an integral part of the music world. Whether Lady Gaga feat. Beyonce or BTS feat. Halsey, combinations like this always make for big hits. The cooperation between a band and the gaming world is rather a rarity. With a sensation like BTS, however, there are several, we have selected a few of the curious games for the K-Pop band for you.

To the Edge of the Sky

Although not an officially licensed game, it is To the Edge of the Sky at least the only one that you can get not only on your cell phone but also via Steam. This is a visual novel in which the characters look not dissimilar to the band members. The screenshots give at least optical cyberpunk vibes, so it’s fitting that the story also takes place in the year 2077. Probably an absolute coincidence, after all it was 2077 the year for cyberpunk settings, you can’t do anything.

Here you get a small impression of the game.

The reviews of the Free2Play game on Steam are even quite balanced, but the enthusiasm seems to be limited, perhaps also due to the in-game or in-app purchases.

BTS Island: In the SEOM

With BTS Island we come to an official game of the band, who according to the official website were also involved in the development process from the beginning. It was released on June 28th this year, to go with her album Proof. It is available for Android, where it has already collected over 5 million downloads, but also for iOS. In this mobile game, which is also initially free, you help the boys on a deserted island, who would have guessed it from the title. The band is stranded there and you need to help them dress it up a little bit fancier for their unexpected vacation.

Here you get a small impression of the look of the game, but the trailer doesn’t have too much to do with the gameplay itself:

Looks more like Animal Crossing than it actually is, because the island beautifications only require you to pass ordinary puzzle levels. You collect stars, which you then need in turn to be able to play “missions”. They don’t deliver any new gameplay, but at least small cutscenes with text overlays. In addition, you sometimes also earn decorative objects, which you can then place on the desired position with a touch.

When not busy with jigsaw puzzles, you can watch BTS strolling around the island and playing their idle animations.

Of course there are also in-app purchases, but at least you won’t be killed directly. In the shop, which then pops up at some point, you can exchange diamonds and gold for real money. Whether this is really necessary, as always with mobile games, is very questionable.

Otherwise, I don’t know about you, but I’ve never seen shipwreck with a holiday in any medium before. But well, when you’re on the road as much as BTS is, you probably really take every opportunity to take a break.

BTS World and BTS Universe Story

The further we delve into the matter, the more absurd the games become, because of course we haven’t reached the end yet. In BTS Worldwhich is also only available on mobile, you play the band’s manager, upgrade their cards, get video calls from the members, so you’re practically in the middle of the band’s events.

Doesn’t sound all that crazy yet, but many of the reviews write of some “creepy” flirting situations in the game and that it’s actually just some kind of interactive fan fiction. Anyone who has ever dealt with it at all knows how these stories can sometimes drift off. Especially in the K-Pop area there are definitely some, let’s say extraordinary stories.

Also BTS universe story takes a similar line, except that you can also create your own stories here, there are only six official stories about BTS. The boys can be seen in drawn form and, depending on the story, slip into the appropriate outfits.

Here you have the cell phone numbers of BTS

Last but not least, there is the BTS Chat! Messenger (simulator) and at least seems to keep what it promises. This mobile game is also not an official game, but it also has an impressive 1 million+ downloads in the Google Play Store. As the title suggests, that’s exactly what you do in the game, chatting with the band members.

This can be done in three languages: English, French and Arabic. Interestingly, Korean, the band’s native language, is not represented. But well, they get around a lot, so you can pick up a bit of Arabic, who doesn’t know it.

Here you can find even more about mobile games:

The ratings are again at 4 out of 5 stars, so the fans seem satisfied. However, the general consensus in the comments is that the “conversations” are always the same, so maybe it’s not really the BTS Boys, but a programmed algorithm…

No, it’s probably more the language barrier, I mean French can be really damn complicated.

But now that’s all I have left AU Revoir to say, because this brings us to the end of our small but fine journey into the BTS gaming universe.

Are you part of the (I dare not ask) ARMY? And what do you think of such collaborations? Do you like to try something like this or are you already satisfied with a well-filled playlist?
