Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski consider taking a break from John Wick

Chad Stahelskidirector of the John Wick films, has spoken about what the upcoming John Wick: Chapter 4 means for the franchise, as well as for him personally.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he said: “In our minds Keanu and I are done for the moment. Let’s give John Wick a break. I’m sure the studio has a plan.

“If everyone loves it and it turns out well, then we’ll have a quiet minute. Wicks always, for some strange reason, always has the latest release date in Japan. It’s always like three months later. If this time it’s Anyway, we’ll do a Japanese tour and release the movie in September. Keanu and I will take a long trip to Tokyo, sit in the Imperial Hotel Scotch Bar and say, “How about that?” We’ll have a couple of 20-year-old whiskeys and we’ll write some ideas on napkins. If those ideas come together, maybe we’ll make a movie.”

Stahelski talked about how intense working on the John Wick franchise has been, and whether that has limited him from working on other projects.

“The Wick movies are very intense, and I like being a part of it all. I’ve tried being the multi-tasking director—preparing one thing while working on another—but I can’t. So it starts to add up.”

He recalled how far the franchise had come and reflected on an iconic moment from the first installment.

“Killing the Puppy was written as many times as it was rewritten. After all, it’s mythological. We had to go so far, so far, to make it known that it was absolutely symbolic. We tried not to retain realism. We want it to viewers know we’re laughing. But you don’t even know how much Dave [David Leitch] and I stress about it.”

John Wick: Chapter 4 opens in theaters on March 24. Will it mean the final farewell to Baba Yaga?
