Microsoft announces huge new wave of layoffs

Microsoft lays off 10,000 employees

This Wednesday, January 18, 2023, Microsoft announced new job cuts after those that took place in October 2022. Thus by the end of March, the Redmond firm will lay off 10,000 employees, or 5% of its payroll. A decision that serves as an answer “macroeconomic conditions and changing customer priorities”according to CEO Satya Nadella.

In his note, Satya Nadella promises that there will continue to be “hiring in key strategic areas”, and that employees will not leave with nothing. The Verge website specifies that those returned will have a “above-market severance pay, six months medical coverage, the ability to purchase shares for six months, future assistance and 60 days notice”. Measures that should cost Microsoft $ 1.2 billion.
