New Tomb Raider series in the works – Amazon seems to have big plans for Lara Croft
Amazon is bringing back Lara Croft as a series.
Good times seem to be in store for Tomb Raider fans. Crystal Dynamics didn’t announce a new game months ago, and an animated series for Netflix is also in the works. But that doesn’t seem to be all. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon is also working on a TV series about the tough archaeologist.

According to the magazine’s sources, Amazon has renewed its contract with actress, producer and writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge. She previously collaborated with Amazon on and starred in the series Fleabag. For the Tomb Raider series, however, she will probably not take on the leading role, but primarily contribute to the script and work as a producer alongside Ryan Andolina, Amanda Greenblatt and Dmitri Johnson.
It is not yet known when the live-action series will come, which actors will be involved and whether we can expect a new story or an adaptation of the games. However, it is rather unlikely that Angelina Jolie or Alicia Vikander will slip into the role of Lara Croft again after three feature films:

Some sources are also talking about a possible film reboot overarching universe – similar to the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). If Amazon really does produce a TV series and a film in addition to the confirmed distribution of the new game, the company has big plans for the Tomb Raider brand. For the time being, however, these are just rumours. Only the new game in Unreal Engine 5 is officially confirmed.

But Amazon doesn’t just want to bring a big brand like Tomb Raider to TV screens. A series adaptation of God of War has already been officially given the green light.
