Nicolas Cage accepted B-movie roles to pay off his real estate debt
There has been much news and speculation about Nicolas Cage and the reason for his involvement in so many B-movies over the years. People whispered that he didn’t care about his career anymore or that he had simply lost touch. Some accusations that he wanted to put an end to once and for all in an interview with CBS News, in which he talks about the collapse of the real estate market that led him to contract serious debts, money that he has already managed to repay thanks to work.
“I had invested too much in real estate. The real estate market crashed and I couldn’t get out in time. I paid them all back, but it was about $6 million. I never declared bankruptcy.”
“The work was always my guardian angel. It might not have been great, but it was still work. Even if the movie ended up being bad, they knew it wasn’t botched, that I always cared.”
He has also mentioned to GQ that the hardest thing was when he was appearing in four movies a year, that he had to find some substance in them to hold on to in order to be the best he could be.
“When I was making four movies a year, one after the other, I still had to find something in them to be able to give it my all.”
“They didn’t work, all of them. Some were great, like Mandy, but some didn’t work. But I never gave up. So if there was one misconception, that was it. That I was just doing it and I didn’t care. But I did care.”
