Does Nintendo just smack a 2 behind the Switch?
Although Nintendo always emphasizes that the hardware performance of the switch is sufficient to develop great games – such as the ‘Game of the Year’ candidate Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – the speculation about a new generation does not stop.
It was only a few days ago that a USAinsider, who also revealed the announcement of Metroid Dread in advance, suggested the distribution of a Switch 2 developer kit. Now follows another rumor that gives the new console a supposed name.
Same code name as seven years ago
We remember: Before Nintendo unveiled the Switch as ‘Nintendo Switch’, it was known by its codename. It read ‘NX’ and to this day no one really knows what the cryptic combination of letters means.
According to insider NWPlayer123, we’re in for a few more months of guesswork as the next Nintendo console is set to be called the ‘NX2’ project.
This emerges from a screenshot allegedly made by Nintendo’s support portal for developers.
Here you can see a re-upload since the original has since been deleted:

This is behind the Nintendo Developer Portal:
Among other things, Nintendo distributes system updates for developer kits via the access-restricted platform for developers so that games can be tested on them. It also provides tools and software environments for development.
How credible is the leak?
Nikki, as NWPlayer123 calls herself on Twitter, is a well-known face in the Nintendo scene thanks to her accurate leaks.
Among other things, she predicted the announcement from the switch itself by pointing out updates on the developer portal.
However, the leaker herself does not seem to be 100% convinced of the discovery in the most recent case: The screenshot she posted only has one source, she herself is surprised that she hasn’t heard more about NX2 from her environment.
Therefore, she does not classify the leak as secure:

In 2016, the original Switch was a little different. At that time, Nintendo updated the game development environment to the once-final version 1.0, making an early release or announcement likely.
Still, she’s heard more “whispers” about the next Nintendo console lately, so that’s by no means off the table.
The “Nintendo Switch 2” is an open secret
The fact that Nintendo is making preparations for the next hardware generation should hardly come as a surprise. A potential processor from graphics card manufacturer Nvidia was found many months ago in documents for the free PC operating system Linux, and even Nintendo was already talking about the successor.
Namely with reference to the fact that the switch to the next console should work smoothly in connection with the Nintendo Online Account. Of course, that would suit us players, since there would be no barrier between the generations.
But will upcoming Nintendo hardware really be called the NX2? Sounds pretty unlikely at first and the image that emerged doesn’t make the best impression with the duplicated switch logo either.
However, one thing is certain: the speculation about the successor console to the extremely successful Nintendo Switch will not stop anytime soon.
Would you just wish for a better Switch as the next Nintendo platform, or a completely different concept?
