NVIDIA finally launches the drivers to activate RTX Video Super Resolution technology

RTX Video Super Resolution comparative 1080p vs 4K upscaled

“In this example, we are upscaling a real 1080p video to 4K with VSR Upscaling on the right, and basic bilinear upscaling on the left, and zooming 2x to highlight the differences,” NVIDIA says on its official blog.

Announced in January, the RTX Video Super Resolution technology was being highly anticipated by users. The reason for this is that will allow you to rescale any video that you find on the Internet. This will essentially allow you gain visual quality. Specifically, any video can be rescaled with a resolution of at least 360p up to 1440p. The purpose of rescaling is to make this video reach a 4K resolution promising to offer a great improvement in sharpness.

In this way, this update has reached the limit. NVIDIA indicated that it would arrive in February, and it has, since today is the last day of February. Thus, remember to have the new drivers to enable RTX Video Super Resolution. Also, the latest version of either Chrome or Edge browsers.

“Available today with the new Game Ready driver, RTX Video Super Resolution uses AI and RTX Tensor Cores to improve the quality of video viewed in a Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browser by removing block compression artifacts and increasing resolution. This improves the sharpness and clarity of the video, and allows you to watch online content – whether from Twitch, YouTube, Netflix or Hulu – in its native resolution on high-resolution displays up to 4K.”

“Users can specify quality levels between 1 (the lowest) and 4 (the tallest). Higher quality levels will result in sharper images and better artifact reduction. The highest quality levels require additional GPU resourcesso if users need more power to run creative applications or games while playing video, the quality level can be adjusted.

All RTX 30 and 40 Series GPUs they are able to scale comfortably using quality level 1, and those in the 3070/4070 class or higher are capable of playing most content at quality level 4″.
