The upcoming sci-fi role-playing game, Starfield, is Bethesda’s first new franchise in 25 years. The space adventure is correspondingly significant not only for fans, but also for the developer studio. Now a Starfield developer has said he can’t talk about the game – generally only one person is allowed to do so.
Who gets to talk about Starfield? As Bethesda lead designer Emil Pagliarulo revealed on Twitter, only Todd Howard is allowed to speak about unreleased information about Starfield.
Todd Howard heads Bethesda along with studio director Ashley Cheng. Howard is the game director and executive producer for Bethesda Game Studios, where he is also responsible for Starfield. He is also responsible for the development of the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series.
I know this isn’t what every Starfield fan wants to hear from me, but I feel like I need to get this straight: no one other than Todd Howard himself is authorized to speak publicly about unreleased game information. That’s the job of our PR/marketing/community people.

“Don’t want to be fired”
Why is only Todd Howard allowed to talk about Starfield? Pagliarulo added in his tweet that he had signed a so-called NDA (non-disclosure agreement), i.e. a non-disclosure agreement.
It “hurts” him not to be able to respond to the many questions from fans because he is so honored by their anticipation of the RPG, but he cannot answer 99% of the questions through the NDA.
Pagliarulo is therefore not allowed to share his opinion on game content, talk about performance or discuss aspects of the game.
Pagliarulo also added that if he spoke about undisclosed information about Starfield despite the non-disclosure agreement, he might lose his job: “I signed an NDA. I am a professional. I don’t want to be fired (via Twitter).”
Even if Starfield fans can’t expect any new information from Pagliarulo, a lot is already known about the sci-fi RPG – enough to fill a 1,000-page Starfield document.
It is also certain that Starfield will be released on September 6th, 2023 for Xbox and PC. However, if you’re playing on PS5, you’ll probably have to resort to a popular alternative that even offers multiplayer.
