Panzer Dragoon Saga turns 25, a mythical game that has never been remastered
Panzer Dragoon Saga was released in Japan on January 29, 1998 and has turned 25. Azel: Panzer Dragoon RPGas it is known in Japan, was one of the most important games in the Sega Saturn catalog and is the third title in the series, but unlike the gameplay shooter on rails, this time we find ourselves with a role-playing game with free exploration.
The project was born as a bet by Sega to compete with Sony’s PlayStation, which had the saga final fantasy from Square Enix as a great claim. Its development began at the beginning of 1995 after launching the first one and in parallel with Panzer Dragoon II Zweibut suffered some problems during its development for integrating the classic elements of Panzer Dragoon with 3D graphics and voices. Director Yukio Futatsugi attributed the deaths of two team members to the harsh working conditions of Panzer Dragoon Saga.
One of the most acclaimed Saturn games that has not had a relaunch
The Saturn catalog remains unknown to many current gamers due to the few remasterings or remakes of their gamesand that includes Panzer Dragoon Saga, although in 2021 we learned of a fan project for updating it. Over time it became a cult game but the commercial failure and the priorities of that moment in Sega -Dreamcast developments- dissolved Team Andromeda.
Copies of the English version are highly valued on the used market and They reach prices that are around 800 euros or more. The title could be one of the essentials in the catalog of a hypothetical Saturn Mini, something that Sega has explored, but that miniature model was discarded due to the cost it would have.
