Paying more than 1600 euros because the store gave an error when buying Armored Core 6 sounds like fantasy, but it has happened to a few
In parallel with the new gameplay trailer for Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, the release date of the long-awaited mech game has been announced and pre-orders have been opened on all platforms. Steam already picks it up as a top seller, but if we go to the official Bandai Namco store, we will find a most shocking situation: some are registering charges over $850, several times in a row. What has happened there?
To understand the situation, we must first consider the entire context. Armored Core 6 is distributed in multiple editions, like many other triple-A pitches. One of these editions is labeled “Premium” and is worth a whopping $449.99/euros, which, of course, is a limited print run. Being exclusive to this trade, the most staunch fans have had no choice but to jump headlong into the purchase, causing saturation in the web traffic.
On Twitter, Reddit or Discord, many users have reported technical problems resulting from this digital congestion; most of which are summarized in error messages at the time of purchasing the product. In those cases, the logical thing to do is wait for the situation to stabilize and try again; but a small percentage of customers come up against the situation that I mentioned above: the purchase is made, the charge is recorded, and then it gives an error.
Above you have the case of one of the users of the most populous Armored Core server on Discord where you can clearly see how the payments have accumulated in your bank account for each purchase attempt, a problem that has also been echoed in r /armoredcore. “The money was taken from the accounts, but no confirmation came from Bandai on the success of the purchase” says a moderator who had encountered several similar situations.
Luckily, Bandai Namco only sells one unit of these very limited products per customer, so (I assume) the extra payments will be automatically refunded eventually. In the meantime, I remind you that Armored Core 6 will arrive on PC and consoles next August 25th, with the very hard gameplay that we love so much and many visits to the garage. I’ve been able to find out more by talking to the AC6 authors, so don’t miss out on that.
