Playground Games co-founder announces his new triple-A studio: Lighthouse Games
Gavin Raeburn He co-founded Playground Games in 2010 with Trevor Williams and Ralph Fulton, but left his post last year without explaining exactly what his next step in the industry would be. Now we have known that has founded a new studio who is already working on his first blockbuster set in a completely new saga. Is about Lighthouse Games and today it has been officially presented, with a web page and social networks in which they explain their creative vision.
Lighthouse Games (not to be confused with the studio that develops Death in the Water 2with which it practically shares its name) is made up of 30 former Raeburn teammates and other “heavy hitters” of the video game industry, as explained by its own founder in a statement.
They are already working on a new triple A driving franchise
As expected from Raeburn’s career, that first triple A that the new studio is already working on will be related to the driving: “With HorizonPlayground and I created one of the most successful Xbox franchises of all time. We achieved significant commercial success year after year, to critical acclaim, following the success of my time at Codemasters leading dirt, grid and F1“Gavin himself says in the statement.
“That DNA is now in Lighthouse,” he continues, “and with it we intend to build something truly special by using all of our experience to create a new genre-defining franchise”.
Lighthouse Games is not the first studio of former Playground Games employees that we have met this year: in early 2023 it will announced Maverick Gamesa studio founded by Mike Brown, director of force horizon 5. This company was born with the aim of creating blockbusters or AAA titles for consoles and PC, being the first in the open world. Like Playground Games, both Lighthouse Games and Maverick Games are based in Leamington Spa, UK.
