Pokemon GO in a new light: Ed Sheeran’s new song about his Pokemon passion – Esports Extras.

Last year, Ed Sheeran, the Grammy-winning artist and self-declared Pokemon fan, gave a special concert for Pokemon GO trainers (players). His new song “Celestial” was released today, which is entirely dedicated to the theme of nostalgia and growing up. For Ed Sheeran, this is clearly linked to the topic of Pokemon: on his Instagram channel you can currently see him surrounded by Pokemon plushies in several photos. There is also a personal message that shows how much the cooperation is important to him and what he connects with Pokemon.

What makes Pokemon and related brands like Pokemon GO so special? One billion trainers have already downloaded the game since it was launched in 2016. For quite a few, the nostalgia factor certainly played a role. And it doesn’t necessarily need a Game Boy Color like Ed Sheeran’s, which he’s owned since he was a child and still uses on long-haul flights, to immerse himself in the world of Pokemon—it just takes a smartphone, which almost every one of us has already uses in everyday life.

For newcomers, now is the perfect time to get carried away by the AR phenomenon as well. Many features have been added since the game was launched, which also invite former players to take another look at the App Store. You can now swap Pokemon with friends, send them small in-game gifts and join them in so-called raids in which you fight opponents together. There are always new, varied quests, challenges and the special “shimmering Pokemon” – extremely rare Pokemon that can only be found with a lot of luck.

Whether you’re a Pokemon fan or not, Pokemon GO always has one thing in mind: the game invites people all over the world to get outside, explore their surroundings, experience adventures together and like Ed Sheeran did letting your inner child out again.
