Pokemon GO is now testing a new feature that will make it easier for you to find people for raids

In Pokemon GO, fighting in raids is one of the most important features for many trainers. Now the developers are testing a new feature that the game has needed for years. We at MeinMMO will show you what it is and who can already try it out.

What are Raids? In Pokemon GO you can not only encounter wild monsters, but also fight them in so-called raids. The legendary Pokemon of the level 5 raids are particularly popular, but you need a lot of support from other trainers to defeat them.

Since the pandemic, you can also be invited to long-distance raids in other regions of the world. However, in order to find suitable teammates, coaches have often had to resort to external apps. Niantic wants to change that and is testing a new feature in the Campfire app. We explain to you what it should bring you.

Niantic tests host function for raids

What is Campfire? Campfire is Niantic’s own app that allows trainers to communicate with each other. You can chat about it, get together in groups or set smoke signals to show that you want to do a raid in Pokemon GO.

Here we explain how Campfire works.

Which function is tested? In the future, trainers should not only be able to display in Campfire if they want to take part in a raid in Pokemon GO on site, but it should also be possible for them to host this raid. Similar to what is already available in other apps such as Poke Genie, trainers can then be specifically invited. The picture by Reddit user circe1 shows what this function looks like in Campfire:

Who can test the function? The new feature is not yet available to all players in Campfire. Niantic has made a selection of trainers who have received an email from the developers and can try the function from March 22nd to March 29th. The notification looks like this:

Trainers criticize limited function

Basically, the trainers are enthusiastic about the idea for the new function, because many people believe that it is long overdue and would significantly improve the game. However, Niantic is also criticized for the procedure.

This is mainly because Campfire is still restricted months after its release. If you want access to the app, you need an invitation. For this reason, the trainers do not understand why Niantic has additionally restricted the trial version of the new function. Here’s what you can read on Reddit:

  • TowelMage: “A QoL feature as a time-limited bonus in an add-on app with a barrier to entry. What the hell is that perspective?”
  • BoristheWatchmaker: “A much-needed QoL update is being hidden behind another much-needed QoL update that is not yet available for the majority of the player base.”
  • Individual_Breath_34: “If they self-publish a PokeGenie equivalent in their app, it would be one of the best decisions they’ve ever made.”

It remains to be seen when access will be available for all trainers and whether this function will then be permanent in Campfire. As soon as there is new information on this, you will find out from us on MeinMMO.

How do you like the new feature in Campfire? Are you one of the lucky ones who can already try it out? Or have you not been able to use the app yet? Let us know here on MeinMMO in the comments and exchange ideas with other trainers.

If you are looking for people to participate in raids, you can also use external apps. I’ll show you how easy it is to do long-distance raids via Poke Genie.
