Shigeru Miyamoto does not want to be known as ‘the Spielberg of video games’
Despite the fact that Shigeru Miyamoto is one of the most important figures in the video game scene, the Japanese creative has always shown himself as a humble person. It is normal that with his creations and contributions Miyamoto is the subject of comparisons, and as you well know we are talking about the father of Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda, among other great Nintendo franchises. However, the developer has made it clear in a recent interview granted exclusively to GameSpot that does not feel comfortable when compared to film director Steven Spielbergalthough on the other hand he feels honored by those who compare his work with that of Disney.
“I have been called the Steven Spielberg of the world of video games, but the truth is that I do not like it. I am Miyamoto. Miyamoto is Miyamoto and Nintendo is Nintendo. However, I am very honored to be compared to Disney. But having said that, rather than comparing Nintendo with Disney, I think that Disney, to some extent, especially for families, represents a sense of tranquility for families,” Miyamoto said when asked by the aforementioned media about how he felt about the comparisons to the acclaimed filmmaker.
Why are you honored when compared to Disney?
“Nintendo is known for its video games and video games are not normally synonymous with calm. But Nintendo is associated with video games and the fact that Nintendo is being compared to Disney gives me the assurance that we have reached a point in the that we can bring Nintendo closer to the concept of tranquility and perhaps [dar esa] security. So that’s something that I really feel like we were able to achieve and I’m happy about it,” he added to previous comments of him.
