After Sonic’s resurgence in the world of video games (he had already done so with the theatrical success of his two live action films) with the release of Sonic Frontiers last November, many of us were surprised by the announcement at the Summer Game Fest that we would have a new blue hedgehog title this year, and that it would also go back to the original side-scrolling formula. Geoff Keighley wanted to bring the title back to the forefront during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, showing a new trailer where we could see new scenarios and the expected cooperative multiplayer mode for four players, who control Sonic, Tails, Amy Rose and Knuckles. And as if that were not enough, he also left us the release date. Sonic Superstar is released on October 17, 2023, further squeezing the fall calendar.

In addition to news about the upcoming Sonic Superstars, The Final Horizon update for Sonic Frontiers was also announced, which will be completely free and includes new characters, a new story and new challenges.
