Sony claims that 30% of monthly active PS5 users have never used a PS4

As part of the presentation of the results of the last fiscal quarter, Sony has revealed that almost 30% of monthly active users of PlayStation 5 are consumers who have never used a PS4.

The company believes this shows that it is attracting new users. This may seem strange, considering that in terms of sales, the PS4 is still way ahead of its successor. But Sony defines its monthly active users as “an estimated total number of unique accounts that played games or used services on PlayStation Network during the last month of the quarter.”

Since this refers to unique accounts that played games rather than buying an individual console, it could be that many of these new users are just secondary player-created accounts for family and friends, for example.
