Sony has sold 38.4 million PS5 consoles, beating its quarterly record
At this time of year, annual reports tend to come out at regular intervals, since the fiscal years of most publicly traded companies ended a month ago, on March 31. There is a particularly notable figure in the one published by Sony, in which it is revealed that the manufacturer of the platform has already sold 38.4 million units of PlayStation 5. The Xbox series X and S have sold a combined 21 million machines , so they are quite behind at the moment.
A much greater distance between the two is registered in the USAmarket, and it was not until 2023 that Sony served a decent stock of PS5, in turn suffering a slowdown with respect to its global rhythm.
In the last quarter, up to March 31, 6.3 million PS5s were sold globally. This means 4.3 million units more than in the same period last year. It also makes the PlayStation 5 the best-selling console in the first quarter of the all-time calendar.
Some other statistics coming from the report mention that the number of PlayStation Plus subscribers is holding steady at 47.4 million. Exactly the same number as last year, despite the big changes in the model and the generational transition. There are also 108 million active users (monthly) on the Playstation Network, two million more than last year.
