Square Enix cancels new game from a popular license before its release

Square Enix has just announced some very bad news. The firm has purely and simply canceled the development of a title from one of its cult sagas.
Square Enix was one of the hottest studios in June. And for good reason, his title desired by fans for years, Final Fantasy 16, is finally available. Well, this episode also seems to divide the historical fans of the license and the game even hurts the PS5 of some players, but overall, the community seems satisfied with the production delivered by the Creative Business Unit III. Unfortunately, Square Enix’s news isn’t all good news. The Japanese firm has just announced that the development of a title that has been awaited for several years has been definitively canceled.
Square Enix cancels a very ambitious game
The announcement made by Square Enix does not concern the saga Final Fantasy, but it should still be a good morale boost for many players, especially action junkies. Through Anne-Lou Grosbois-Favreau, the Japanese company formalizes the pure and simple cancellation of the development of Just Cause Mobile. The brand manager communicated the bad news on the title’s Discord server, which had been in early access for several months already.
It is with great sadness that we announce the end of development of Just Cause Mobile. Starting tomorrow, July 3, 2023, the game will no longer be available on online stores. It’s never easy to make an announcement of this nature, especially for our fans who have been waiting for the release. We sincerely appreciate the support you have given us.
If you have playedearly access of Just Cause MobileAnne-Lou Grosbois-Favreau clarifies that all Blue Diamonds purchased during Regional Early Access “were fully refunded to your Google Play account on February 24, 2023“. For the moment, Square Enix has not expanded on the reasons behind this decision.
A game that wanted to do too much?
Has Square Enix been too ambitious with Just Cause Mobile ? The free-to-play revealed at The Game Awards 2020 wanted to offer players an open world worthy of a AAA on smartphones with a single player campaign, co-op up to four players and multi competitive. A great promise on paper. Subsequently, the release of the game was postponed from 2021 to 2022, but again, Square Enix could not meet this deadline. Several countries were still entitled to regional early access. This will therefore be the last memory left by Just Cause Mobile to the players, who should welcome this news with great disappointment. They can console themselves with JustCause 5currently in development by Avalanche Studios.
