Things are going pretty well for Star Citizen, at least financially speaking. It continues to come in a lot of money and that is already impressive enough since it is financed exclusively through donations. The fact that, even eleven years after it was announced and despite the fact that It’s not finished yetpeople want to continue donating money to the project is even more impressive.

According to official data, Star Citizen has already raised a staggering $590 million. To put that in perspective, that’s more than it cost to develop Cyberpunk 2077, Grand Theft Auto V, and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined (according to Player Auctions, development costs for all three are around $484 million). How long this can last without the studio calling it quits remains to be seen, and it’s unclear how much of the money actually goes into game development.
