steam has "hidden" a lot of game trailers on its

Through a post issued on the Valve blog, the parents of Half-Life and Portal have announced a major change in the way their store’s games are displayed to users: from now on, the main gallery will only show two trailers (or videos of any nature) followed by screenshots. This does not delete the rest of the recordings, but “hides” them until the end of the tour. The objective? Help both developers and consumers.

“We determined that the developers were unclear how to organize trailers to offer the best experience to players” reads the statement. “Many games have received a large number of trailers throughout their development, making it difficult for customers to find screenshots. At the same time, we know that players have an interest in understanding more about the trailers they’re watching. This update is about fixing both and helping players learn more quickly about the games they care about.”

So, if a game file on Steam has more than two videos, the excess will go to the end of the file, giving priority to screenshots. Along with this, the Washingtonian firm also adheres to instructions for developers and publishers, according to which the videos that accompany the tabs are divided into four new taggable categories:

  • Generic Trailer or Cinematic
  • Teasers (teaches little of the game)
  • gameplay
  • Development interview or documentary (outside of game fiction)

If a game has more than two videos, the excess ones are automatically moved to the bottom of the gallery to show screenshots first

Valve strongly encourages token makers to show as much playable material as possible in the first two videos. “Usually, you’ll want to give players an in-depth look at the gameplay as soon as possible. We recommend that your first trailer be one that shows mainly gameplayclearly demonstrating to the player what it will do in your game and how it will interact with the world you’ve created,” the blog reads. “Save the logos or campaEsports Extrasrecaps for later in the trailer, when you already have the player’s interest.”
