Tencent goes from competing with the PSVR 2 and cancels its virtual reality because “there were no interesting games”
Competition in terms of hardware is spectacular, even more so in such devices complexes to sell to the gaming community like virtual reality. For this reason, it seems that the giant Tencent has decided not to even get into that muddy terrain and seems to have development canceled of a VR device.
According to the British media Reuters, the Chinese giant was in the process of starting the development of software and hardware for VR. Although this idea will never come to fruition, at least not as it was originally conceived, the team in charge was part of a unit created in 2022 for him extended reality development.
Apparently, this team consisted of almost 300 people who have been “recommended” look for other jobs. Reuters collects this information from various sources close to the Chinese giant, who add that this project would be one for the very long term and would not see profitability to minimum 2027.
“Under the new strategy of the company as a whole, it no longer quite fit,” says the source of the British media. However, the most worrying words, as well as interesting in terms of anticipating risks, come from another worker, who assures that Tencent had dearth of promising gamesas well as apps that were not interactive projects.
A goodbye to competition that the Chinese have said not perhaps too quickly, but if they have done it, it is for a reason. And it is that, the development, production and commercialization of a product like this can suppose enormous losses.
