How does Ranked Battles work in Pokemon’s Double Battle format?

The game is played according to the rules of the VGC (Video Game Championship), the official e-sports tournament series in the Pokemon games. This means that trainers compete against each other in double battles – i.e. a trainer uses two Pokemon at the same time.

Before the match, the trainers choose 6 Pokemon that will be part of the team. However, in the battle itself, Trainers can only use 4 of the 6 Pokemon. Which 4 pocket monsters a trainer chooses can be decided immediately before the start of the fight. At the same time, he sees which 6 Pokemon are available to his opponent.
