The fate of the Multiverse hangs in the balance in March of the Machines, the latest expansion for Magic: The Gathering.
Magic: The Gathering receives a new set of cards, March of the Machines, which will conclude the Phyrexian story, becoming the last installment of the four sets. In it, players must gather legendary creatures and planeswalkers from across the Multiverse to face off against the dominating Phyrexian army. Wizards of the Coast first released the expansion in Magic: The Gathering Arena on April 18. Subsequently, it was released last Friday, April 21 in a physical edition.
This new story tells of the invasion of the entire Multiverse led by Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines. To stop him, a group of planeswalkers full of legends will unite to fight against the Phyrexian army. Taking popular characters from the franchise into a final battle to liberate the Multiverse.
In addition to all this, this new expansion presents new game systems, where a new type of double-sided card stands out: Battles. In it, the player chooses an enemy who must protect her. Battles can also take attacks and damage, just like ‘planeswalkers’. When defeated, they resurface as a new card with great power. It should be noted that it is the first new card type since the debut of the ‘planeswalkers’ in 2007.
Another of the new creature-focused gameplay systems is Back Up. This allows you to add +1/+1 counters on the target creature. It will get the abilities of the original creature until end of turn. This gives much more versatility, in addition to the fact that in certain circumstances it can serve as support within the team. Finally, another mechanic has also been included, Incubate, some artifacts with several +1/+1 counters, which have the ability to become creatures by paying two mana. The latter is facing the Phyrexian army.
The Jumpstart and Commander line of products will also feature in this expansion with five themes for Commander decks; Rising Threat, Cavalry Charge, Call for Backup, Divine Summoning, and Tinkering Time. In addition to five Jumpstart topics; Progeny, Outstanding, Expendable, Reinforcement, Enhancer.
It should be noted that March of the Machines will have a large number of artistic styles; In addition to frames from recent collections, there will also be completely new frames. The latter will focus on Legends of the Multiverse. The collection will also include an exclusive type of treatment, the Halo Foil, which will only appear in collector boosters.
Magic: The Gathering continues to celebrate its 30th anniversary with three exclusive cards available in Wizards Play Network stores. Finally, this new set of cards is now available in different product lines such as Commander decks, in edition or collector boxes or in Bundle boxes.
