The Gambit movie that was never filmed has a culprit: Channing Tatum gives details about the cancellation of the tape
The X Men have always been one of the most famous franchises within marvel comics and, in turn, one of the most striking in the world of superhero cinema. The group made up of Charles Xavier, Wolverine, Storm and company have come to have very good adaptations (Although also quite bad) and they have not stopped coming out spin offs of the most beloved characters like Deadpool or Logan.
However, one of the films that was never made despite the fact that it was under production was that of Gambit. The play was to be starring channing tatum and it was scheduled to premiere in 2016, but after several delays it ended up being cancelled. Several years later, Tatum commented on the reason for the cancellation through an interview with the Hollywood Reporter.
“The movie was absorbed by Disney through Marvel when they bought Fox. I think in the end, the tone of the movie we wanted to make was very far from what they intended to do; Or, you know, maybe they’re just waiting to see how they do with us or without us. We call from time to time, but we have to let it go spiritually, emotionally and mentally.
As Tatum recounts, the main reason the film was never made was the Disney’s purchase of Fox in March 2019. This caused all the projects that were not liked by the giant mouse company to be scrapped or reformulated to be in accordance with the company’s policies.
Nevertheless, Tatum does not close the door to the fact that he can play the character in the future now that the X-Men will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, although it is likely that the approach will be different from what they had almost 10 years ago.
