The Last of Us Part II It is, at the same time, one of the most successful and controversial video games of recent years. The direct sequel to the first The Last of Us released in 2013 for PlayStation 3, I bet on a story of risky revenge in which, as those of you who have played it will know, after a few hours of play it forces us to experience it first-hand Joel’s bloody death at the hands of Abby. How did Lorenzo Beteta, the dubbing actor who lent his voice to the beloved character in Spanish, react upon learning of the fateful fate of the protagonist of the first part?
In an interview granted exclusively to Vandal, the veteran actor and dubbing director told us that he felt “flashed” and that he was “fatal” to discover that Joel died after a few hours of play. “My blood ran to my feet and I said ‘but let’s see, this can’t be’. I don’t know, there was a first moment of rage, of anger, of saying ‘why? It doesn’t make sense for them to do this with this character‘. I had a very bad time. I got very angry with the title”, confesses Beteta about the first impression of her.
“But then I saw that the end is one more fact that brings you closer to how life is. Life doesn’t always have happy endings and these things happen. Life is cruel and sometimes things happen that you like and others you like. Sometimes things happen that don’t. And in this case I didn’t like it at all, but I understood that I was part of a story that is very close to what life ishe adds.
