HBO’s The Last of Us series may not only be getting a second, but also a fifth season.
HBO filmed The Last of Us Part 1, and it was a huge success. The series was an absolute success with fans and critics and it is no wonder that the project is to be continued. A second season is already in the works, but it might not be the last. In an interview, five seasons are now even brought into play.
The Last of US: The HBO series could get not only two or three, but maybe even five seasons
That’s what it’s about: The first season of The Last of Us received several awards and caused a real storm of enthusiasm. The initially skeptical cast of Joel and Ellie turned out to be an absolute hit and the deviations from the game were mostly well received. You can watch a trailer for Season 1 here:

How many seasons are left? That is of course the question of price. What is certain is that HBO and showrunner Craig Mazin are working on a second season. But it was said some time ago that the whole story of The Last of Us Part 2 can probably not be told in just one season.
Accordingly, at least three seasons seem likely, even if there is no guarantee. A few months ago, the TLOU showrunner announced that it would be taking it one season at a time.
This is what the co-creator says now: Of course, in a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Craig Mazin is again asked how many The Last of Us seasons are still to come. He doesn’t give a clear answer to that, but what he says sounds promising – and as if at least three seasons are currently planned:
“You never know. It could end up being three seasons or five. But four seems like a good number to me.”
Also with regard to number of episodes Craig Mazin does not want to commit itself per season. The good news is that people want to see more of the series and it’s been so well received. Should that surprisingly change, The Last of Us could of course also be canceled completely.
It may still take: Everything is currently standing still in Hollywood anyway. The double writers’ and actors’ strike continues to ensure that nothing works. Until the corporations finally pay decently, not even the casting for the upcoming The Last of Us seasons can be pushed forward.
Nothing is certain at the moment: Don’t rejoice too soon! What can be said is that it is still unclear how many seasons it will ultimately be. Two seem very safe, three probably. We might get four or even five. But always one after the other.
