The new EVE Online game “marks a Square Enix” and will bet on the blockchain, although nobody has asked for it

Talking about NFT and blockchain seems very 2022, but CCP Games is a bit behind with the news about these technologies. The Icelandic authors of EVE Online, a benchmark on PC within MMOs and space simulation, are now developing a game under the blockchain model.

This new game, which will take place within the universe of EVE Online, it will not follow in the footsteps of this installment as a sequel, and neither, as far as we know, will it be a continuation of the license as EVE: Valkyrie supposed. But, although we know what it is about, we do know that its base will be that of a AAA game with the latest in blockchain technology.

This has been proudly announced by the studio’s CEO, Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, despite the hatred that this publication has aroused on Twitter. Pétursson has advanced on the portal Project Awakeningthe game’s codename, that “CCP Games’ vision, since its inception, has been to create virtual worlds more meaningful than real life.”

“This new AAA title will combine the studio’s 25 years of game desEsports Extrasexperience with the latest in blockchain technology to enable a new frontier for the players and its autonomy, and it will also be established within the EVE Universe,” the Icelander said.

As we have commented before, the response on Twitter has been mostly negative. The CEO has commented on his personal profile the plans of this Project Awakening with a good list of negative responses and the occasional meme. However, it has also attracted content creators and others associated with the Web3 and NFT projects, who praise the studio’s leap forward.

For the moment, and like the occasional meme, all that remains is to sit down and wait for the future of the study to unfold in the face of a technology that seems to have its days numbered. Even so, and despite all the bad things that it causes, Square Enix, on the other side of the world, is not getting off the ship of this technology either.
