The RTX 4090 is 15% faster than the RTX 3090 Ti on AOTS, what’s up?

There are only a few days left until the high-end NVIDIA RTX 40 hits the market. Of this new generation of GPUs, the RTX 4090 is, without a doubt, the one with the best performance thanks to its 16,384 CUDA Cores, a figure much higher than the 9,728 CUDA Cores of the 16 GB RTX 4080. With the RTX 4090NVIDIA ensures that a far superior performance to the past generation, but this we don’t see it reflected in the AotS game (Ashes of the Singularity).

The RTX 40 graphics arrive with a power consumption and a price high enough to put off most potential customers. However, NVIDIA ensures that the performance of these is so good that they are really worth it. For this reason, he already showed graphs where in rasterized managed to get about twice the FPS in many games. when activating Ray Tracing and DLSS 3the difference was even greater, because in games like Cyberpunk 2077 the RTX 4090 managed up to 4 times more performance than today’s top-of-the-line GPUs. However, it seems that these figures were very optimistic when compared to the new RTX 4090 performance leak.

The RTX 4090 is only 20% faster than the RTX 3090 in AotS 4K

From the leaker TUM_APISAK, we already have performance data for the RTX 4090 in the game Ashes of the Singularity, better known as AotS. This has an internal benchmark where we can test how many FPS our PC will give, which in this case does not specify the rest of the components. So, being the RTX 4090 the only thing revealed about the computer, we have a score of +13,000 points (they have deleted one of the digits), using the preset Crazy 4K of AotS. With this score, a comparison against the RTX 3090 and 3090 Ti graphics cards is added.

Here we can see that the performance of the RTX 4090 disappoints, because in this test it is only a 15% higher than an RTX 3090 Ti. If we now compare it with the RTX 3090 reality hits us again, because here it only manages to be a 20% faster. Now, all these are figures given by the filter itself, so we have proceeded to go to the official website to compare. So, we have the RTX 3090 giving 10,900 points in AotS with the same Crazy 4K preset, which is roughly a 20% slower if we use 13,000 points as the leak benchmark.

There we see a coincidence, although this is not repeated in the case of the RTX 3090Tiwhere with 11,900 points it turns out a 9% slower than the RTX 4090. Thus, in this particular benchmark we see that they do not really represent a very large jump in performance. But be careful, because in AotS thes AMD GPUs outperform NVIDIA in most cases, while in games the same is not true.

The RX 6900 XT with an i9-13900K performs like the RTX 4090 in AotS

AMD RX 6900 XT Core i9-13900K

Since the performance of the RTX 4090 is not surprising in this AotS benchmark, looking for similar results we have found something curious. here we have one AMD RX6900XT along with a supposed Intel Core i9-13900Ka combination that gives exactly those 13,000 points. This would mean that this RX 6900 XT would achieve the same performance as the RTX 4090In this specific game, of course. Unfortunately, this type of benchmark does not have the same precision as others and we must add the fact that we do not know the PC that had the RTX 4090.

In fact, if we proceed to look at the test specifications with the RX 6900 XT, we see that the i9-13900K lists a total of 32 physical cores and 32 threads, values that do not add up, but are repeated in the rest of CPUs. For example, in the tests with the i9-12900K they showed 24 cores as well. Finally, if we are going to see results from a less powerful GPU like the RTX 3080 with a i9-9900K of 2018, are achieved 8,700 points, with a much lower CPU. Having said the results, we already know that the RTX 4090 will not stand out in this particular test, but that does not rule out that in the rest of the benchmarks and games if it meets expectations.
