This year there are 3 action RPGs that look so good that if they don’t sell well I’m going to get pissed off
What, are you looking forward to Diablo IV? Me too. The fans of the action RPG (which we are practically all, wow) we are in luck, between that and the confirmation of the Elden Ring DLC. But among so much fun and joy, inside me there is something that does not rest, does not breathe; He’s with a loaded shotgun. And it’s a genuine concern for several games that I suspect aren’t going to get the reception they probably deserve. That can not be.
We are used to buying only those games that we fully trust, releases that will give us many hours and with very high reviews; while new IP or games of a double A nature are kept apart “until the price drops” or “when they give it in the Game Pass”. Defending this class of releases, I suggest you keep on your radar the titles on this list: they look great, they are coming out this year and they could use a little attention.
remnant 2
My Steam account registers more than 135 hours of Remnant: From the Ashes, a game that arrived in 2019 signed by Gunfire Games (veterans of the Darksiders series) and that has an average of 85% thumbs up on the Valve platform. In the review of Remnant for Esports Extras, I considered that it was one of the hidden ones of the year at that time and since then I have continued to play its DLC and updates fervently. Was a game loveWow, and its sequel is exciting.
To give you a bit of an idea, we are talking about a roguelike with a handling similar to that of Resident Evil (er, but much more agile) and a super addictive progression. Nothing is left up to the RNG in that sense, you just have zillions of mods and so many other pieces of equipment with unique characteristics; so a good part of the journey consists of rethinking your build as you get new “clunkers” that inspire you in different ways.
Remnant 2 arrives at some TBD point next summer, with unique features for each class, hybrid classes, and unlockables; and countless infernal creatures to face. You also have a little dog to add to your arsenal, which is surprisingly well worked and has even starred in its own trailer. But if you want a true view of what the experience is like, watch out for 9 minute gameplay accompanying these lines.
Lords of the Fallen
This case is quite different from the previous one, because Lords of the Fallen does not have a precursor that we can consider as a hidden gem. Rather, the opposite: Lords of the Fallen from 2014 (it has the same name, yes) became the laughing stock of the industry. A kind of failed Dark Souls, because at that time nobody dared to face the FromSoftware titans in their own field; with just 59% positive ratings on Steam. One Love and I can not”.
That came signed jointly by CI Games and Deck 13, authors of The Surge; while this reboot It comes from Hexworks, which is an internal CIG firm spread across Barcelona and Bucharest. Will it come out better, will it come out worse? Namely. But for now, to Caesar what is Caesar’s; the images and trailers they look amazing, the desEsports Extrasof the monsters is crazy and it has been created with an Unreal Engine 5 that says a lot about what the current generation of hardware has prepared.
It’s early to claim victory with this one, don’t get your hopes up just in case (I’m trying not to get carried away) but as you can see, for now there are plenty of reasons to have it on the radar, at least. At the moment, Lords of the Fallen plans to reach Steam and other platforms at some unspecified point in 2023, although like the rest, it can be put on the wish list from now so that they notify you by mail when it is available.
Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
Under normal circumstances, any project in which Hidetaka Miyazaki has been involved automatically goes on the list of must have from half the world But this is not the case of Armored Core 6, since we are talking about an old IP, niche and with a reputation for being difficult to cover to comic levels. It remains to be seen if the game enjoys some acceptance—hopefully even popularity—when we see it in action, so in the meantime this one will have to suffice. cinematic trailer.
In case you didn’t know, the Armored Core franchise is one of the oldest from FromSoftware and in it you play a mecha pilot who offers his services to different factions or companies in exchange for money. More specifically, AC6 takes us to a conflict on a galactic scale in which multiple corporations fight each other for control of a very valuable substance. We don’t know much about the gameplay and graphics, except that they will be respectful of the AC legacy.
Maybe it’s too soon to judge if the game will be good or bad, but if you like to build characters and put them to the test in your RPGs, this game is literally about that; leaving it aside just because it’s not as famous as its peers is a big mistake. Armored Core VI is expected to hit stores this year, though we’ll probably have to wait until E3 2023 or some similar event for any concrete details and gameplay footage.
