Twitch streamer mourns turning down million-dollar deal: ‘It keeps me awake at night’

In 2019, Twitch streamer Chance “Sodapoppin” Morris had the chance to switch to the Microsoft platform Mixer for a sum worth millions. He turned down the offer – a decision that, years later, is still keeping him awake, as he has now admitted.

Who is the streamer?

  • Sodapoppin is a veteran on Twitch and has been on the platform since 2011, so he describes himself as the “Twitch guy”
  • He is now followed by 8.8 million people on Twitch, with an average of 20,000 watching his streams
  • He started as a WoW streamer, but in the meantime he has broadened the content: from the sex dungeon in VR to the burger joint in GTA, everything is there
  • He can actually look back on a successful career, but the streamer still regrets a decision to this day

Soda has been with Twitch for ages and has seen some changes on the streaming platform. We presented one of the most important to you in the video:

Prime Gaming, the secret behind Twitch’s success

Missed deal still rankles him years later

This is how the statement came about: In a co-stream with Nick “Nmplol” Polom, Soda was asked what missed opportunity he wouldn’t pass up knowing now. Sodapoppin’s response was instantaneous: “Blender!”

Sodapoppin said he was offered a lucrative $10 million deal from Mixer but turned it down. Nmplol could hardly believe that such an opportunity would be missed and called Soda an idiot. He replied that he knew that himself.

This is behind it: In 2019, Microsoft wanted to build a competitor to the streaming giant Twitch with Mixer. To do this, they dug deep into their pockets and simply bought some of the biggest Twitch stars.

Big streamers like Ninja and shroud made a lot of money with their Mixer deals, but Microsoft didn’t make the math: Mixer failed and the streamers just went back to Twitch as if nothing had happened. However, small mixer streamers fell by the wayside.

Sodapoppin could have grabbed the money without having to face the consequences.

I could have signed, they would have shut down and gone broke. They should have fulfilled the contract and paid me what they owed. That would have been millions and I would have just come back. I didn’t sEsports Extrasit. Moral!

Since then, Sodapoppin seems to have been obsessed with the missed opportunity. The streamer said it keeps him up at night. Only recently he was annoyed that he did not seize the opportunity at the time.

Twitch streamer regrets turning down shady million-dollar deal: ‘I’m so jealous of these bags’

Here’s what Soda would do differently today: Back then, Sodapoppin turned down the deal out of moral concerns, but today his conscience doesn’t seem to bother him any more: he would sEsports Extrasthe damn deal, leave and take the damn money with him.

“If soda goes, Twitch will sink the ship”

Then why didn’t Soda sEsports Extrasit? Known for his dry humor, Sodapoppin sometimes scoffs at his own viewers. But turning his back on Twitch so easily wasn’t something he had the heart to do.

He thinks Mixer wanted him because he’d been on the platform for so long, longer than anyone else:

I’m stuck with this image, Soda is the original, he’s the twitch guy. He’s been on Twitch longer than anyone else, if he leaves it means the ship is going down, right? That’s a big responsibility.

Apparently, Soda was concerned that his departure might signal the end of things for Twitch.

how do you see it? Is it megalomania or would Sodapoppin’s departure really have had such an impact on Twitch? Please leave us a comment with your opinion.

Similar to Mixer, YouTube is now trying to compete with the streaming giant Twitch. You also buy some of the biggest streamers, but you do it more cleverly. However, one of the biggest Twitch streamers believes others are underselling.
