World’s Greatest YouTuber Shows Americans Are Pretty Bad At Geography And Geopolitics
James “MrBeast” Donaldson is the world’s greatest YouTuber, known for his intricate and spectacular videos. In his latest video, however, the American shows that there is still some catching up to do in some areas.
what is this video In his latest video, MrBeast had people from “every country on earth” compete for $250,000. At first that sounds like a completely normal project by the YouTuber, who has already had people of different ages compete against each other.
But it is precisely this seemingly harmless video that is currently causing discussions. Because MrBeast and his team unintentionally showed how geography and geopolitics are in the USA (via Jeuxvideo).

What’s so wrong with the video? The maps, which are displayed after each competition to show which countries are still in the race, provide a lot of conversation. Because here it becomes clear that those responsible have some catching up to do in some areas.
A Twitter thread shows some of the blunders the YouTuber made. Among them is a rather harmless mix-up: the flag of the US state of Georgia was used for the country of Georgia, which is also called “Georgia” in English.
We have included the beginning of the thread here:

But other statements also provide amusement and are sometimes very explosive:
- Puerto Rico, a US territory, is managed as a separate country
- The organizers probably consider Greenland to be part of Canada
- MrBeast recognizes Palestine as an independent state, but not Taiwan.
- Crimea is assigned entirely to Russia in the video.
It seems, then, that there is not only a lack of geographical knowledge, but also an understanding of how explosive such geopolitical issues can be.
MrBeast seems to have a knack for getting criticism for his videos from unexpected quarters. Here’s how he arranged for 1,000 people to have vital surgery that gave them their sight again, and still ended up being kind of the bad guy:
