Today, January 19, 2023, the gates of Ulduar open in WotLK Classic. The raid plays a special role in World of Warcraft. The raid first appeared in 2009, 14 years ago, but will be given a new trailer for the release in Classic.
What’s that raid? Ulduar is one of the Esports Extrasntic complexes of the titans left on Azeroth. The raid features 13 bosses plus an optional boss. At the end, the Old God Yogg-Saron awaits you, whose madness pollutes the entire instance.
Ulduar is one of the best raids in WoW history – not only because it’s so huge, but also because of its mechanics. With Ulduar, Blizzard expanded the system of optional “Hard Modes” and extended it to almost all bosses.
If you wanted, you could activate optional difficulties for 10 of the 14 bosses in order to get stronger loot later. Ulduar was also the last raid in which this was possible. Later raids then directly offered a normal and heroic mode in addition to the number of players to determine the difficulty.
In preparation for Ulduar, Blizzard has given the 14-year-old raid a new video:
When can I enter Ulduar? In WotLK Classic, Ulduar launches on Thursday, January 19 at 11:59 p.m. UK time. From there you can enter the raid and fight the bosses.
Raid loot from heroic dungeons
But there is already other content that is worthwhile for you if you still want to prepare: Titan rune dungeons.
The latest patch 3.1.0 in WotLK Classic is on the servers and brings an innovation to the game that wasn’t there then: Titan Rune Dungeons. You can now interact with a titan rune at the start of a heroic dungeon.
If all players use the rune, the opponents in the dungeon become stronger. You gain more life points, deal more and get special abilities depending on the dungeon. The system works a bit like Mythic+ in Retail-WoW.
Boosted Dungeons will drop better than normal loot, matching loot from Naxxramas 10-player modes, the Eye of Eternity, and the Obsidian Sanctum. Also, there are 3 Emblems of Conquest in addition to Emblems of Honor.
WotLK Classic is very popular among fans, but soon loses a large group of players: China. Here Blizzard has not renewed the partnership with NetEase and almost all of the studio’s games will go offline there on January 23:
