Xbox 360 Digital Games Store Closing Date Announced
We knew that this day was going to come sooner or later. The Xbox 360 game store or ‘marketplace’ helped cement the sale of digital games on consoles, but it will soon come to an end. Microsoft has already revealed the date the Xbox 360 digital games store closes.
The good thing is that they made the announcement well in advance. We have almost a year to get all the games and DLC we want from this store. We also hope that Microsoft will work hand in hand with video game preservation initiatives like The Video Game History Foundation to ensure that no part of the history of this medium is lost.
When does the Xbox 360 marketplace close?
Unless plans change, the last day of the store’s life will be the Monday, July 29, 2024.
What will happen to the digital games and DLC that we buy on this console?
Nothing will happen to games and add-ons you already own or purchase before the store’s closing date. They will be able to continue playing them and if they were deleted, they will be able to download them again even after the closing date. We will also not be able to use the movies and television application again.
Remember that at the beginning of this year they had already removed other games from this store.
This shutdown will not affect the online play options of any console game.
What will happen to Xbox 360 games in the Xbox One and Series X|S stores?
Nothing. Xbox 360 games compatible with these consoles will continue to be available in the respective stores.
