More than a simple console, the Xbox universe has over time become a complete ecosystem for Microsoft, enough to multiply services and even derivative objects. This announcement is indeed surprising.
As you have seen over the years, the Xbox is much more than just a game console. It now represents a brand encompassing a growing variety of services and products of all kinds. We remember in particular, not without humor, the announcement of an Xbox mini-fridge and even, more recently, a small book of recipes inspired by franchises belonging to Microsoft. Fully aware of the loyalty of its community, the IT giant wants to take it to the next level.
Xbox directly in your wallet
It’s official, the Xbox Credit Card will be available soon, but only in the United States for the moment. The result of a partnership between Microsoft and Barclays US Consumer Bank, it will initially be reserved for Xbox Insiders before being extended to all Xbox players based in the United States from next year. This initiative is part of a loyalty program based on a rewards program. But how does it work in practice?
September 21 will therefore mark the exclusive launch of the Xbox Mastercard for Insiders residing in the United States. . With no annual fee, this credit card allows you to accumulate points with each purchase, points which can then be exchanged for games and expansions on xbox.com. The extension of this service to all American players is planned for 2024.
A card full of advantages
This card offers the opportunity to accumulate points at various levels: 5 times the amount of purchases in points for eligible products at Microsoft Store, 3 times for selected streaming and meal delivery services, and 1 time for other everyday purchases. The benefits don’t stop there: members also benefit from an offer of 5,000 bonus points (equivalent to $50) after their first purchase and three free months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. New members can also choose from five designs to personalize their card with their gamertag. Finally, they will also have the ability to make contactless payments and view their FICO score online for free. This allows you to benefit from a credit rating and full protection against fraud.
To join the Insider program, you must download the Xbox Insider Hub application on your Xbox or Windows PC. Registration for the card will begin on September 21, with the launch occurring in successive waves throughout the fall for Xbox Insiders. Unfortunately for us, we do not yet have any information on a possible launch of this service in our territory. As is often the case, the United States could serve as a large-scale testing ground before introduction into our countries. It also remains to be determined whether the public on the old continent is ready to venture into this novelty. If buying a recipe book is a relatively simple process, entrusting part of your financial health to Xbox is a completely different matter. Nevertheless, the initiative could appeal to the brand’s most ardent fans.
What is your opinion on this initiative? Would you be interested in a service like this in France?
