It is no secret that the situation of Xbox in Europe it is not the best. For a couple of years, the Microsoft division has declined in this market. Now, Stores in this region have seen the low sales of hardware and software with this company's logo as a problem for their business.

According to Chris Dring, director of GamesIndustry.biz, at least one well-known store in Europe told him that They currently have problems selling anything with the Xbox logo on it. However, they have mentioned that the inventory they carry is so small that they are willing to keep these products on the shelf, at least for the time being. This is what he said about it:

“A major European retailer told me that they are having problems selling anything with the Xbox logo, and they have had internal conversations about it. At the end of the day, they mentioned that 'well, there aren't many games, we can handle it.'”

Although for years Europe was a great market for Xbox, we have long seen how this region has become more and more a PlayStation territory, leaving the Microsoft division aside. With this, The position of this company during the current generation has not been very positive for stores worldwide. However, it is also important to mention that this is not something new, as Dring mentions, Nintendo went through a similar situation with the GameCube and Wii U.

Although there is third party hardware and games available in the store, the offer of exclusives has been almost non-existent, not due to the lack of software, but due to the fact that Xbox is not interested in creating discs for its most acclaimed titles. Even when they decide to offer a physical product, it's usually just a key, so users are not interested in purchasing an Xbox game, something that affects the stores that put their products on the shelves.

Although it is mentioned that the product is not large enough to cause severe problems, The availability of Xbox games in stores, not only in Europe, is likely to decrease significantly in the future. On related topics, Xbox could lose third party support. Likewise, Phil Spencer talks about a possible portable Xbox.

Editor's Note:

This shouldn't be a big surprise. Xbox is focused on the digital aspect, and on everything that Game Pass offers. For them, there is no great need to sell physical units of their games, or other companies' titles. This mentality contradicts traditional game marketing, and when all stores realize this, don't be surprised if we only find Nintendo and PlayStation games on the shelves.
